Victoria Park

Victoria Park

This painting won the grand prize at the Elora en Plein Air competition (May 16, 2025, hosted by the Elora Fergus Arts Council). I am indebted to Valerie Kent (www.valeriekent.com) for her kind words at the awards presentation and also to the purchaser of this painting.

The view is Irvine Creek, looking south from the creek bed, and if you turn around, you would see the David Street bridge to the north. Access down to the bed (about 6 stories) is from Victoria Park, where through the trees you can make out the “Tooth of Time”. The “Tooth” is a lonely pine tree on a rocky island; an Elora landmark for 75 years. I walked cautiously down the steps to the Creek bed, and was overtaken by nimble middle school students and even high heeled tourists from Toronto (Elora calls itself the “Day Tripping Capital of Canada”).

Everywhere you look in the pretty communities of Elora and Fergus you find paintable scenes.
